Little Ninjas- First Week

Little NinjasLast week was our first week training for our Little Ninjas at The Activ8 Martial Arts and Wellbeing centre in Lancaster. Classes were running on Monday, Friday and Saturday and  we are slowly starting to entice more Little Ninjas. We have just been asked to promote our classes on the BabyMaze website and we will be featured there soon.

Our Little Ninjas had great fun learning our ninja stance and how to do punches and kicks on the pads. We are also learning how to do a forwards roll with assistance. There was lots of giggling and smiling involved from the Sensei and the children too.ninja

‘Activ8 Little Ninjas’, is a fun and engaging class for 2 to 5 year old children with the aim to teach and improve basic skills such as; balance, coordination, discipline, respect, building friendships and improving concentration.

Whether a child needs a positive output for excess energy or a confidence boost before joining primary school or one of our junior jujitsu classes. This tailor made class is purpose built to help your child.

Classes are:

Mondays 5pm-6pm, Fridays 5pm-6pm, Saturdays 9:15am-10:15am

Day 1 and 2 of Holiday Club

The summer holiday has started, which can only mean one thing… Activ8’s summer holiday club is up and running again! This year we have even more exciting activities and fun for our students, including workshops, crafts and competitions.

On day one, the students started the day with a jujitsu and self defence class where they went through moves on their belts, getting ready for their next gradings. After, Sensei Alex had organised a big scavenger hunt round our brand new dojo, where the children had to work out clues to get the next locations. They eventually found the grand prize, which they shared out between them! We then moved onto our craft activity, which was designing and making their own bowls! They started by designing them on a piece of paper, and then they created the shape of the bowl and any 3D patterns they wanted out of clay. This got a but messy but the final designs looked great! They will paint them later on in the week, so check out our blog post to see the final bowls!

After lunch, the instructors ran a first aid class, where the children learnt about how to put on a plaster, and how to look after someone if the collapse. They learnt very important lessons about hygiene, the importance of calling an ambulance and how to stay safe. They also learnt lots of parts of the body, which they were quizzed on, in a worksheet activity at the end of the day.

On Tuesday, we had another fun filled day! After the jujitsu and self defence the class, we had a visit off the police! The kids learnt about what the police do, and they even got to look inside the police car!

We can’t wait for the rest of the week! It’s not too late to sign your child up for the summer club. You can do it through our website at https://activ8selfdefence.co.uk/contact-2/ or visiting our Facebook, Activ8 Self Defence

Our brand new Activ8 Martial Arts and Wellbeing Centre

We thought you might like a sneaky peek at our very own Activ8 dojo, an exciting new space which we are currently in the process of transforming.

Activ8 Martial Arts and Wellbeing CentreThe team arrived at what was then ‘the spiritualist church’ on Thursday 21st June, and soon realised there was a lot of work to be done! It was all hands on deck with instructors, families, students, junior team leaders and parents all chipping in to lend a hand.

Sensei Gary took the reins and guided the team as to the vision of what we wanted to achieve.

After a lot of clearing out, ripping off wallpaper and using our brilliant martial arts kicks to flat pack the old furniture (well, we are a martial arts club!) we had a blank canvas to start decorating.

Out came the white paint!

image3 (4)_croppedMeanwhile in the old kitchen (soon to be treatment room) an Activ8 parent was enjoying ripping out the old cabinets… until the floorboards disappeared!

We knew it was going to be a long night, so after a good fish and chip supper the Activ8 team stayed until 10pm to fix the floor! (Thanks Tony!)

After the white paint came the Activ8 red; the dojo was starting to take shape.

Sensei Matt was put in charge of painting the ceiling. Unfortunately we left the radio on and had to endure the sing-a-long! The toilets and changing area were also being redecorated.

Outside the building Sensei Sarah was busy tackling the overgrown trees that were shadowing our parking area. With a little help from the rest of the team and a good workout moving dead branches the outside area was looking a lot better!

Stay tuned for the big reveal and our grand opening!
